A message from our president 會長的話
Dr. KO Lam
Digestive cancer is a global health burden.
According to the latest local data from the HK Cancer Registry, there were over 15,000 new cases of digestive cancers, notably colorectal, liver, stomach and pancreatic cancer were among the top 10 Cancers in terms of incidence with a death toll of over 5000 each year in HK!
Nonetheless, we all agree that this is the best of time when we can witness remarkable progress in the management of many of these digestive cancers like never before.
Convened by Prof. Brigette Ma, with Dr Rashid Lui, Dr Dominic Chan and Dr Natalie Wong and me, HKSDO was established in 2025 as a non -profit academic organization that aims to create a dedicated, representative and embracing digestive oncology platform for our profession, our patients, and our society.
We choose to set up HKSDO and do the other things, not because they are hard, but because they are easy!
Yes they are easy at this particular time in HK with all the distinctive talents , oncologists, surgeons and all other wonderful colleagues in different specialties; with our excellent track records in research from bench to bedside; and with our unique connection, between the East and the West.
The key Objectives of our Society are to
• Promote communications and academic exchange among health care workers and research professionals
• Advance both science and clinical practice in digestive oncology, in order to elevate HK status in related fields locoregionally and globally
• Increase public awareness of digestive cancers and to achieve early diagnosis and appropriate treatment
Thank you for joining us and let us not forget the initial pursuit of setting up the Society! We earnestly call for your continuous support to the Society, and for a better and healthier Hong Kong!
我們希望為香港及大中華地區的腸胃科醫療作出一點貢獻
